Q) What service does expodition provide?

A) The expodition web site allows iPod users who are planning a holiday, trip or journey to download local information about their intended destination onto their iPods. This information is provided as a Pod SnapShot. As well as being local, the SnapShot is tailored to the user by way of a profile. This downloaded information can be viewed at any time via the 'Notes' feature of iPod.

Q) So what's a Pod SnapShot?

A) A Pod SnapShot contains information which can be viewed easily on your iPod. You obtain SnapShots from our web site when you use our service. You then copy these to your iPod and you're all set; when you're out and about or visiting new places, you can view details and information about the area you're in via your SnapShot. It's that easy!

As well as downloading SnapShots from expodition.com, be on the lookout for the PSS icon while you're browsing the Internet. When you see this icon, you can download a SnapShot specific to the web page you are browsing and store this on your iPod.

For example: while browsing the web whilst planning a trip, you may come across some historic buildings which you'd like to visit. Luckily, the web site contains a icon which you click on to download a SnapShot about the historic buildings.

You can then enhance your appreciation of these buildings by viewing the SnapShot before, during or after your visit.

Q) Isn't the correct spelling 'expedition'?

A) expodition is a play on words. It's derived from expedition which is defined in the dictionary as:

a.    A journey undertaken by a group or groups of people with a definite objective: an expedition to chart new territory; a scientific expedition to the South Pole.

b.    The group undertaking such a journey.

As an iPod user, you are part of this group. By registering on the expodition web site, you will be joining many other iPod users around the World who love to travel.

The ‘pod’ in expodition subtly emphasizes our iPod connection.

Q) Why do I need to register?

A) By registering, you'll have access to all areas of the web site, including the forums when they go online. You'll also be able to upload pictures of your travels when we introduce our gallery! Essentially, though, registration is important as it allows us to build a community.

Q) Why do I need to create a profile?

A) As the saying goes "you only get out what you put in". By creating a profile of your likes and dislikes, the SnapShot emailed to you will be relevant. For example, if you like shopping, eating Thai food and dancing the night away, then your SnapShot will include details of Thai restaurants, shopping facilities and nightclubs near your intended destination.

Keeping your profile up to date and as complete as possible will ensure the most relevant information is included in your SnapShots.

Q) Is there a charge for your service?

A) Pod SnapShots downloaded from our Directory are free. For Pod SnapShots based on your profile, there is a small charge. The current prices can be seen on our purchases page.

Q) Can I use this information on other handheld devices?

A) Yes. The SnapShots which you'll download are specifically formatted for use on an iPod - however, it can easily be copied to and used on other handheld machines such as Palm or Pocket PC powered machines.
